Russia and Japan 2018: bilateral year of culture. Japan exhibition at Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts
Russia and Japan celebrate a bilateral year of culture in 2018. One of the events in celebration of this bilateral year is an exhibition of Japanese paintings and prints at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
The museum itself has a large collection of Japanese prints, but the majority of the art works on display, were brought to Russia from Japanese collections. Among the themes in the exhibition are landscapes, portraits, genre scenes and historical scenes. A well known work which visitors of the exhibition can admire, is the pair of folding screens depicting the god of Wind and the god of Thunder the by the famous Rinpa painter Ōgata Korin (1658-1716).
